Many organizations are seeking to engage parents and family members as partners in developing policy solutions and advocating for change.

But organizations sometimes struggle with how to build these partnerships in ways that are collaborative and share power. In addition, programs often observe that families come to advocacy with a history of trauma—experiences that often drive their commitment to speak out. What responsibility do programs have to those family advocacy partners? This resource represents an initial effort to outline trauma-responsive practices that organizations can use when recruiting, developing, and sustaining relationships with family advocates.
